RENTAL CAR BUSINESS AND FACILITIES PLANNING
At most U.S. airports, a significant percentage of airline passengers are
also rental car customers. On-airport rental car companies typically pay facility
rentals plus a percentage of their airport-related revenues; rental car transactions
are often the second largest nonairline revenue source at airports after public
parking. As the numbers of airport passengers increase, rental-car-related roadway
and curbside congestion can be significant, and rental car operations may occupy
land that would be better used for automobile parking or terminal-related expansion.
This increase in passengers, and rental car customers, is also a problem for
the rental car companies, as they incur higher operating costs while trying to
maintain acceptable standards of customer service. For many airport sponsors,
finding solutions to accommodate the needs of the rental car companies and their
customers is critical to maintaining passenger service and the airport's long-term
financial health.
Jacobs Consultancy's rental car facilities planning practice combines airport
and rental car facility development expertise with specialized business planning
skills to develop "win-win" facility planning solutions. We assist
airport sponsors with the planning of new or interim rental car facilities; analyze
operating costs and funding alternatives; assist with negotiating business terms
with the rental car companies; assist with facility financing; and provide specialized
project implementation assistance. We help develop solutions that are successful
for the airport sponsor, the rental car companies, and their mutual customers. |
