GROUND TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING

Airport sponsors analyze ground transportation and parking facilities and operations to determine how best to improve levels of service, enhance operations, and accommodate the needs of airline passengers, airport employees, and air cargo shippers--that is, all users of an airport. Unlike the typical commuter, airline passengers are often unfamiliar with airport access roadways, and under stress because of concerns about potential congestion or delays encountered when entering an airport or searching for a parking space.

In recognizing the unique needs of airport users, airport sponsors understand that "cookie cutter" solutions are often impractical in an airport environment, and they must instead seek innovative solutions that provide the traveling public with high levels of service. Airport sponsors also attempt to operate ground transportation and parking facilities efficiently, and to maximize their revenues consistent with other goals. Managing and controlling parking revenues are important because public parking facilities are typically the largest source of nonairline revenue at U.S. airports, often generating between 15% and 30% of total airport revenue.

Jacobs Consultancy provides analysis, planning, and management services in connection with all facets of airport roadways; curbside areas; parking facilities; and commercial vehicle, public transit, and automated people-mover facilities. We have prepared forecasts of facility requirements and revenues, conceptual designs for individual facilities, and management plans and regulations for over 50 airports over the past decade. Jacobs Consultancy is recognized in the industry for its leadership and innovative solutions. As a result, we are often asked to participate in leading-edge projects and research efforts.
