Dr. STEVE VAN BEEK

Title: Director

Office: Washington, D.C.

Practice Area/Specialization: Aviation policy, funding, and regulatory affairs. Mr. Van Beek specializes in federal airport policy and funding initiatives (including AIP grants and PFC program development) as well as airport governance and privatization, congestion management, air service, and airport-airline relations.

Prior Experience:
Prior to joining Jacobs Consultancy in 2006, Steve served as Executive Vice President for Policy, Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA), and in conjunction with the President and Board of Directors, directed ACI-NA's policy efforts. Over 300 aviation-related businesses are members of ACI-NA, which is the largest of the six worldwide regions of ACI.

Prior to joining ACI-NA in March 2001, Steve was appointed by President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Associate Deputy Secretary and Director of the Office of Intermodalism at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). He was responsible for promoting and coordinating the development of intermodal passenger and freight transportation systems, improving connections among transportation modes, and enhancing services for passengers and shippers. His assignments included chairing a federal advisory committee on aviation delays and working with counterparts at Transport Canada to facilitate the clearance of people and goods across our common border.

Between February 1998 and November 1999, Steve served as the Deputy Administrator of U.S. DOT's Research and Special Programs Administration. Working with the Administrator, he was responsible for the regulation of interstate oil and gas pipelines and the movement of hazardous materials, university research, emergency transportation and response, and the Volpe Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Van Beek was a professor of political science at San Jose State University between 1990 and 1998, where he was also appointed a Research Associate with the Mineta Transportation Institute.

Dr. Van Beek currently serves on the Board of Directors and teaches at the University of Denver's Intermodal Transportation Institute. He is also an advisor to the Eno Transportation Foundation (a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving all modes of transportation) and served as a government liaison to the National Defense Transportation Association, which builds partnerships between industry and government.
