Mr. Van Beek specializes in federal airport policy and funding initiatives
(including AIP grants and PFC program development) as well as airport governance
and privatization, congestion management, air service, and airport-airline
relations.
Prior Experience:
Prior to joining Jacobs Consultancy in 2006, Steve served as Executive Vice President
for Policy, Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA), and in conjunction
with the President and Board of Directors, directed ACI-NA's policy efforts.
Over 300 aviation-related businesses are members of ACI-NA, which is the largest
of the six worldwide regions of ACI.
Prior to joining ACI-NA in March 2001, Steve was appointed by President Clinton
and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Associate Deputy Secretary and Director of
the Office of Intermodalism at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). He
was responsible for promoting and coordinating the development of intermodal
passenger and freight transportation systems, improving connections among transportation
modes, and enhancing services for passengers and shippers. His assignments included
chairing a federal advisory committee on aviation delays and working with counterparts
at Transport Canada to facilitate the clearance of people and goods across our
common border.
Between February 1998 and November 1999, Steve served as the Deputy Administrator
of U.S. DOT's Research and Special Programs Administration. Working with
the Administrator, he was responsible for the regulation of interstate oil and
gas pipelines and the movement of hazardous materials, university research, emergency
transportation and response, and the Volpe Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dr. Van Beek was a professor of political science at San Jose State University
between 1990 and 1998, where he was also appointed a Research Associate with
the Mineta Transportation Institute.
Dr. Van Beek currently serves on the Board of Directors and teaches at the University
of Denver's Intermodal Transportation Institute. He is also an advisor to the
Eno Transportation Foundation (a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving
all modes of transportation) and served as a government liaison to the National
Defense Transportation Association, which builds partnerships between industry
and government. |
